DataFlower Technology Review

DataFlower – Technology

DataFlower software is a powerful interface between SAP and external databases. DataFlower includes dozens of Data Schemas definitions – Vendors, Customers, Financial documents, etc. These data schemas definitions can be uploaded into DataFlower, and then you can get the SAP data (i.e. vendors' details, customers' bank accounts and more) continuously in your own database. When data is updated in SAP, it will be updated automatically in your database too. Furthermore, special table of changes are collected for each SAP object, so you can track objects' changes easily.

From a technology point of view, DataFlower includes two important characteristics:

1. A special and unique mechanism to reduce performance issues in SAP, during data download.

2. No need for any supplement to SAP server (DataFlower Basic), as DataFlower uses only standard SAP Functions to fetch data.

DataFlower in the organization

DataFlower is installed on a separate server. All communications to SAP servers (ERP, BW, etc.) and to your database are performed from this server.

DataFlower in the environment

The image above describes DataFlower components and its position in the environment. On the left side appear the source systems – systems that can be used as source systems for DataFlower to fetch data. Then the data is fetched by DataFlower. For each data record you can inspect the values of the data using the "Data Inspection" module of DataFlower. The Data Inspection module will alert if a business rule is violated. Simultaneously to be inspected by data inspection module, the data is put in SQL server (an external database). When the data is in the database, clients can use the data using any external application or produce reports using standard reporting tools, like Microsoft Reporting Server.
